Who is Roy Gantz?
Roy Gantz is an expansive artist from Skokie, Illinois. A first-generation American and the first artist in his family, Roy was born singing-- making up songs in the backseat of his mom’s car. By 11 years old, his obsessions with Hannah Montana and Wicked fully took form, and Roy’s passions for pop music and musical theatre became a professional endeavor.
Before college, Roy’s natural talent led him to performing in musical theatre across Chicago’s regional theaters and nationwide on a national tour, soaking in wisdom from directors like Jack O’Brien and Marc Bruni. By 16 years old, singing in vocal jazz groups informed his deep love for the Great American Songbook, and after purchasing a guitar during lockdown, he began songwriting. All the while, his tastes broadened to include genre-fluid artists like India.Arie, Lady Gaga, George Michael, Sara Bareilles, Kacey Musgraves, and The Carpenters.
Roy chose to attend The University of Southern California (USC) for its emphasis on interdisciplinary studies and to begin his career in Los Angeles. Roy graduated in 2025, unorthodoxly carving his path— handpicking his courses across Acting, Popular Music, and Public Relations to fit his vision as a 21st-century artist. Over 4 years, Roy was mentored by trailblazers in music and acting like Patrice Rushen, Anita Dashiell-Sparks, Jeffrey Allen, and Doug Peck— who he continues to work with. He performed in a musical every year, including roles in A Chorus Line, Carrie, She Loves Me, and playing Mark Cohen in RENT. He also acted in short films, wrote scripts, and artistic directed a Jazz cabaret. All the while, he worked as a University tour guide and for the Recording Academy’s GRAMMY U program; crafting content and events for young music professionals. Highlights included being vocal coached by Billy Porter at the GRAMMY U Conference in NYC and trophy presenting at the 64th GRAMMY Awards Ceremony.
Roy’s debut single, Malibu Feels Like You, is available on all streaming platforms and he has performed his original music across Los Angeles, including iconic venues like The Troubadour.
Roy believes strongly in positivity, joy, authenticity, and a bit of mischief. No matter the medium, Roy seeks to inspire deep feelings and big smiles.
